Young Money star Nicki Minaj has even more reasons to smile at the start of a new year with reports claiming she has passed platinum-selling rapper Eminem as the most followed hip-hop artist on Twitter.
Even though the statistic can change on a daily basis, Nicki currently represents the most followed rapper on Twitter.
Eminem has just handed his title over to Nicki Minaj as most followed rapper on Twitter. Nicki Minaj has surpassed Eminem as the most followed rapper on Twitter with nearly 8.2 million fans following her, leaving Eminem in the dust with 8.1 million followers, which is not surprising considering Eminem has not used his Twitter account since November of last year and Minaj is constantly using her account to keep her fans updated on her music news. Social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube have become an important part of a musician's tool box when it comes to promoting music, updating fans or even launching careers, so the more fans you can have following you on these sites, the better it is for your career. While Minaj is known to be an avid daily Twitter user, Em's latest tweet! dates back to late November.
"Australia, I'm on the way. Tickets still available for Sydney Dec. 4th show: http://premier.ticketek.com.au/shows/show.aspx?sh=EMINEM11," he tweeted November 28th. (Eminem's Twitter)
A few months ago, Young Money's Drake described his issues with Twitter.
"I'll tell you, my biggest thing was, I remember, it was on Twitter. I remember the day my mom was getting surgery and someone came on Twitter and they were like, 'Yo, Drake, I hope your mom dies.' You don't really mean that. Like, you know you're going to see something bad. Out of 1000 compliments, it's so crazy. In October, rap star 50 Cent detailed his addiction to the social network.
"I think it's great. I think it allows you the ability to make a public statement from your telephone," 50 explained when asked about his love for Twitter. "It allows you to reach your base, the people who have interest in your material or what you're doing, at any time -- I think entertainers are supposed to entertain on it versus provide more of their personal lives insight.
