US rapper Nicki Minaj has pioneered a very personal new form of merchandise. As part of her first Australian tour, Minaj offered fans a VIP meet and greet package that included selling her now trademark "boob signings". But for the first leg of her debut world tour Minaj's sold out Hisense Arena show last night was a little underwhelming compared to her contemporaries like Rihanna and Lady Gaga.

Nicki Minaj demands Belgian waffles and fried chicken on her tour rider. The 'Starships' singer - who is renowned for her love of outrageous wigs and costumes - recently arrived in Australia to play a series of gigs, and she demands a vast array of calorific treats are laid out for her backstage. According to Australia's Daily Telegraph newspaper, in addition to waffles and chicken, Nicki also must have 12 cans of Red Bull - six of which must be at room temperature, while six are on ice - whipped cream, strawberries, 24 bottles of Snapple, contact lens solution and a cool-mist humidifier. A deli tray is also required which features turkey breast, whole wheat bread, grilled chicken breast and yellow mustard. However, she does not only demand unhealthy food and sandwich fillings - Nicki asks for a salad of iceberg lettuce, sliced tomatoes, tuna and cucumbers in a light Italian dressing. Considering how bipolar her latest album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded is, it makes sense that Nicki Minajs singles would slingshot between hardcore ( Stupid Hoe, Beez in the Trap ) and super-slick pop ( Starships ). Right By My Side, her latest single and video venture, falls squarely in the latter category, and the clip itself is a pretty bland love story between Nicki and guest star Nas (who does not actually rap on the song). Theres also plenty of refreshing Pepsi and a guest spot from hook singer Chris Brown, whose comeback was recently rejected by Liz Lemon . If Nicki Minaj wanted to sum up the divide that tends to frustrate people about her Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded , she could hardly have done it more clearly than in her latest video. As SPIN's No Trivia blog noted recently, the album goes straight from a Nas verse on towering posse cut "Champion" to fluffy Chris Brown hook-up "Right By My Side," a jarring transition that shows the artist's shift from "Old Nicki" to new Nicki in its least favorable light. It's only fitting, then, that Minaj's new "Right By My Side" video finds the two competing for her affections.
