Nicki Minaj wants fans to fight back

Nicki Minaj wants to teach her fans to "stick up for themselves". The eccentric singer is known for her honest nature and has been involved in high-profile celebrity spats with the likes of Aerosmith rocker Steven Tyler and pop diva Mariah Carey. The 29-year-old rapper insists she only acts in self-defence and wants to maintain a good example for impressionable fans. "It gets a lot of attention when I fight back. But that's the key; fight back! Someone started the fight with me, and that's what always happens," she defended herself to Australian radio show hosts Kyle and Jackie O. "But I want my fans and the people who look up to me to stand up for themselves." The Super Bass singer is currently a judge on American Idol, but unfortunately clashed with her co-star Mariah. Nicki admits she grew up listening to the icon's music and finds it hurtful when she falls out with people she admires. "I've gotten so much from people who don't

Steven Tyler and Nicki Minaj ( WENN.COM ) Rocker Steven Tyler has issued a public apology to Nicki Minaj after the rapper accused him of making a racist comment about her judging abilities as a new panellist on reality show American Idol. The Aerosmith frontman, who stepped down as a judge on the show earlier this year, sparked a Twitter.com feud with Minaj earlier this week when he suggested the Starships hitmaker would not be able to spot the next great artist if he showed up on stage in front of her. He tweeted , "If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield. Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out." Minaj, who joined fellow new additions Mariah Carey and Keith Urban on the judging panel when Tyler and Jennifer Lopez quit the show this summer, promptly fired back at the ageing rocker's criticisms. She raged , "Steven Tyler said I would have sent Bob Dylan to a cornfield??? Steven, you haven'

Nicki Minaj snubbed her own party

Review: Nicki Minaj's 'Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded -- The Re-Up'

Image
A lot has happened in the seven months since Nicki Minaj issued her sophomore effort, Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded. The pop-rap minx has gone on her first headlining tour, issued a perfume (a clothing line is also in the works) and joined the judges' panel on American Idol. As her profile continues to rise, Minaj has also seen her artistry scrutinized. Her sophomore effort fueled contention among critics and rap purists, many of whom felt the platinum-selling femcee had turned her back on hip-hop in search of pop success. With Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded -- The Re-Up, Minaj attempts to right some of the missteps of that disc. And for the most part, she does. Minaj 's wheelhouse remains her ability to pair her pop sensibilities with the raw, razor-sharp raps that made her a game-changing talent to watch. While Roman Reloaded felt bogged down by generic, 128-beat-per-minute rhythms, the eight songs Minaj churned out for the reissue do a better job of uniting her two fan bases

Q&A: Nicki Minaj on new music and 'American Idol'

NEW YORK (AP) Nicki Minaj , the rapper who has had much success on the pop charts with songs like "Starships" and "Super Bass," says the rerelease of her sophomore album will be nostalgic for her early fans. "The feel of the rerelease is kind of like my first sound, like the mixtapes," she said of "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded The Re-Up," out Tuesday. The rerelease comes seven months after "Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. That album features pop, dance, R&B, reggae and rap sounds. It's a far stretch from when Minaj kicked off her career as a sexed-up street rapper, signed by Lil Wayne in 2009 after she released three buzzed-about mixtapes. Her official debut, "Pink Friday," is near double platinum and was nominated for a Grammy Award. But the 29-year-old says she's "back to basics" on her eight-track "Re-Up," which features Lil Wayne, Tyga and some of M

The 'Moment For Life' singer - who is set to make her debut as a judge on the new season of the reality TV series when it hits screens early next year on January 16 - is worried she will come across as an unpleasant person on the show and won't even be able to watch herself. She told Ryan Seacrest's radio show: 'I'm scared. Maybe I shouldn't have been so like... It's hard for me to not say how I really feel. 'Everyone else is so nice. I was just thinking back about some things and I was like, 'I wonder if that was not so nice.' 'I don't think I'm going to be able to watch it. I'm going to be so nervous. But I know people are going to love it. I think it's a great dynamic.' The 29-yer-old singer admitted she thinks that brutal honesty is the best policy when it comes to the contestants on the show.
