Organisers of this year's V Festival have announced that Nicki Minaj will not be performing due to illness.

In a statement, V Festival said that the 29-year-old singer is unable to play due to "on-going vocal issues".

Nicki Minaj had been due to headline the 4Music stage at the event which takes place this weekend.

She would have performed on Saturday 18th August in Stafford and Sunday 19th in Chelmsford.

'Vocal cord issues'

The statement said that the artist felt unwell as she boarded her flight from New York, "despite having thought she had overcome her vocal cord issues from earlier in the week.

"Having revisited her doctor she has now been advised to rest for a week, which unfortunately means that she is no longer able to perform at V Festival."

Organisers have wished Nicki Minaj a "speedy recovery" and said LMFAO will take her place.

After performing at Radio 1's Hackney Weekend the US rap star is due to begin a UK tour in Nottingham on 21 October.

The Pink Friday Reloaded tour will also stop in Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle, Birmingham, London, Sheffield and Cardiff.

Nicki Minaj released her second album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded in April with Starships reaching number one in the singles chart.
