Nicki Minaj Talks Upcoming Clothing Line, Healthy Fashion Rivalry With Lil' Wayne

Ever since we first caught wind that Nicki Minaj would be coming out with her very own clothing line, we knew it'd be near-impossible for our brains to handle the parade of candy raver, Harajuku Barbie dreams realness that was sure to follow. How many shades of pink would be used? Would tiers stuffed animals be involved? Would there be purchasable wigs to boot? Chiefmost among our questions, though, was WHEN we might be able to get our paws on the Nicki-designed line. Thanks to a little chat she had with our friends at Thread Count, we're that much closer to a concrete answer along with a grip of palate whetting details, including the healthy fashion rivalry between Nicki and her Young Money mentor Lil' Wayne!
Nicki spills that she's working on launching her yet-to-be-named collection some time next year, revealing that the only thing holding it up is, "We're just looking for a place and deciding where we're gonna go with the brand." Along with teasing that the line will, in fact, incorporate elements! of Hara juku Barbie, she says, "my biggest goal was to make a line that was going to be affordable to my fans and also rich enough in quality that they'll feel like they're wearing exactly what I'm wearing." Awwww, such love for her Barbz!
Nicki also opened up about her mentor Weezy's thoughts on her clothing line. She told Thread Count, "The other day, me and Wayne were bashing each other. He was telling me that my clothing line better not copy off of his clothing line. And I was like, 'Excuse me?' And he was just like bragging about his clothing line is at Macy's and we were just cracking up laughing," commenting on the healthy rivalry she has with Wayne and his Trukfit label. Nicki expressed how proud she was of Weezy and his sartorial accomplishments, but playfully hyped up her own project saying, "when my clothing line comes, I'm going to blow him out the park and he's probably going to be coming asking me for a job." She added that she's, of course, going to be buying up Trukfit by the armful the next time she goes to Macy's, and since her forthcoming line is going to be unisex, Wayne doesn't really have an excuse not to do the same. Though, it's worth noting that Weezy's clearly not above wearing ladies' garments.
