Nicki Minaj 'amazing choice' for 'Idol,' says Jessica

MANILA, Philippines -- "American Idol" runner-up Jessica Sanchez is thrilled for the inclusion of controversial pop star Nicki Minaj as a judge in next year's edition of the popular singing competition.

"I think those are amazing choices for the new judge panel. They're definitely different from the other people," Sanchez told music channel Myx, referring to the involvement of Minaj and country singer Keith Urban as judges for the 12th season of "Idol."

The two will join singer Mariah Carey and record producer Randy Jackson in the judging panel.

During Sanchez's stint as an "Idol" contestant, the panel included Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and singer-actress Jennifer Lopez, along with Jackson.

Known for her outlandish outfits and headline-making performances, Minaj, according to Sanchez, will be helpful to aspiring singers with her years of experience in the music industry.

"Nicki Minaj is definitely an entertainer, and to be in the music industry you have to be an entertainer, so I think she'll help with that a lot," Sanchez said.

Minaj, in an earlier interview, said: "'American Idol' is such a credible brand. It's really serious, it's real deal it's not anything else other than really looking for talent. If I can be a part of that I'm really down for it."

Following her runner-up finish on the reality singing competition, Sanchez and the other top 10 contestants of the 11th season have been touring parts of North America for a concert series.

For their finale show, the "Idol" alumni will stage a concert at the Araneta Coliseum on Friday, September 21.
