Nicki Minaj Channels Her Mixtape Self On Collabo With Future
These days you can't go wrong with a feature from either Future or Nicki Minaj. In the past year, they've both lent their respective voices to some pretty high-powered hits, and the plans are now in motion for them to join forces for their own collaboration.
"People are gonna love the one with Future. It just feels right," Nicki told MTV News of her and the Astronaut Kid's upcoming collaboration.
Last month, Cash Money CEO Birdman dropped his new single "Tapout" with Lil Wayne, Future and Nicki Minaj, and it was during that recording that the Pink Friday rapper got a request to feature on Future's upcoming Future Hendrix LP. "All the dudes like it," she said. "I just went in and just did my verse and just felt... His music reminds me of my mixtape music."
Minaj is currently collecting beats for her third LP, but Nicki is having a ball recording features for others. Whether she is working with Justin Bieber ("Beauty and a Beat"), Alicia Keys ("Girl on Fire") or French Montana ("Freaks"), Nicki marvels at her own versatility and is thankful that she gets the chance to cross musical boundaries. "Anybody from any label, from any genre can send me a song and I'll freak the verse," she said. "That keeps me changing; it breaks up the monotony of me focusing on one thing, or one voice or one sound because I can always experiment."
Next up for Nick is a guest spot or two on Ciara's upcoming One Woman Army album.
"I was supposed to only do one song for her album and I think I'm going to end up doing two," Minaj said of working with Future's main squeeze. "I ! just love what she's doing and I'm so proud and I'm really excited for people to hear it."
