Nicki Minaj Barbie Doll Available For Auction; Proceeds Go To Charity
Nicki Minaj has teamed up with Mattel to create a unique Nicki Minaj Barbie doll that will be available for auction at CharityBuzz.com, Billboard reports.
The doll will be showcased at the Divine Designs five-day event and gala at the Beverly Hilton in Los Angeles. Bids for the doll start at $1000 and will be received up until Dec. 19.
All proceeds will go towards Project Angel Food, an organization that provides daily meals for people affected by HIV and AIDS.
"Barbie is obviously a pop culture icon. She's been in the spotlight for over 50 years, and strikes that chord with girls of all ages in terms of being representative of the times. And Nicki is a big part of pop culture and also huge within the fashion industry, as well as a big Barbie fan," said Stefani Yocky, a Barbie spokeswoman, The Los Angeles Times reports.
"It's really exciting for us that she's been so generous to allow us to create this one-of-a-kind doll to support such an important cause," Yocky added.
Minaj appreciates the support of her fans, who call themselves Barbies or Barbz for short.
"For me this is a very major moment, because it just shows that you can come from nothing and still be a force in the main world, a business woman, and hopefully a mogul one day, Minaj said at the Billboards Women in Music Event. It shows that my Barbz are special, and everyone loves them as much as I love them, so I want to thank them most importantly."
