Nicki Minaj Calls Waka Flocka Flame 'My Brother'

Even before she was part of the YMCMB camp, Nicki Minaj had a close friendship with Waka Flocka Flame, and the two linked up recently on the Atlanta rapper's single "Get Low" from his Triple F Life album. Nicki joined Waka and Tyga on set to shoot the song's video this week, where she told MTV News that things between her and Waka are still golden.

Early in her career, Nicki Minaj was managed by Waka's mother Debra Antney, and when she parted ways from Antney, things seemed to go sour. Despite some of the fallout from that separation, Nicki brushes it off now, confirming that it hasn't affected her relationship with Waka.

"Waka Flocka is my brother. People know that I go way back with him and whatever he needs me to do, it gets done," Minaj said. "He called me, he sent me a song, I said, 'It's nothing.' I was finishing up my album and I said, 'You know? I got you, it's nothing.' "

When asked if her relationship with Waka has remained intact over the years, the Queens rapper seemed confused by the question, addressing Waka directly: "Still cool? Why wouldn't we be still cool, babe?"

Waka offered his own take on the hearsay. "One thing about a blog person, they're critics," he said. "Critics get paid to criticize a person's life they don't know nothing about. To a person that don't know what's going on, they'll confuse [my life]. So I could tell you anything you don't know, and you'll believe it, right? But when you get the truth, it's gonna sound like a lie."

Just a few hours before they linked up to film the "Get Low" video, Waka joined Nicki onstage in Atlanta, where she touched down for her Pink Friday Tour with 2 Chainz. According to her recap of the show, you really had to be there to understand the energy.

"When [Waka] came out, n---as lost their minds. Seriously, you'd have to see the footage to understand how his hometown really is behind him," s! he gushe d. "But I wanna say that Atlanta shows each other so much love. They've got so much camaraderie, and I f---s with that."
