Nicki Minaj doesnt want to become over-exposed
Nicki Minaj was reluctant to join as a new judge for the 12th season of American Idol for fear of becoming too accessible to the public.
Minaj is known for her catchy rap lyrics and outrageous fashion ensembles, but this winter, she chose to go a different route with her image. Deciding to accept Foxs offer to become a judge on American Idol was not an easy decision. She confided to The Hollywood Reporter, Sometimes you are afraid of being too famous because it's almost, like, is that even cool? Being that accessible, someone you see on TV every week? I never pictured myself as that type of person. I'm still surprised that I decided to do it."
Although she mulled over the possibility with family, friends, her label, and Lil Wayne, it was Idol executive Mike Darnell that persuaded her. "He was so lovable and made me feel so comfortable and confident. He kept saying, 'I promise we're going to protect you; you're going to love it, we're a big family, Minaj gushed to The Hollywood Reporter.
And, according to TMZ, the new season of American Idol will have its fair share of drama, or in this case, catfights between judges Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj. At the auditions in Charlotte, North Carolina, Carey called Minaj a b**** and continued to taunt her until Nicki finally lashed out in retaliation. The two bicker on either side of a very uncomfortable Keith Urban.
American Idol is set to premiere January 16 at 8 p.! m. on Fox. Minaj is joined by judges Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, and Keith Urban along with host Ryan Seacrest.
